Start from your playing position
Set up your instrument before placing the device. Sit or stand as you will perform, then locate the screen where you can glance at it without twisting your neck or lifting your fretting shoulder. For piano, check that the display does not hide your hands or require a long sideways turn. For guitar and ukulele, leave room for the instrument body and strumming arm. Use a stable support and route charging cables away from walking paths. A convenient desk arrangement may not work when you stand for a whole song.
Test a real passage
Open a checked song in AudioChords and follow the synchronized lyrics and chords through a verse and chorus. Notice whether you can identify the next change with a short glance. Adjust the device position and any available display settings, then repeat the same passage for a fair comparison. Test under lighting similar to the rehearsal space, including reflections from windows or lamps. Do not assume a screen that looks clear at home will remain readable across a bright room. Ask another player whether your setup blocks visual cues between you.
Rehearse looking away
Choose one familiar phrase and look toward an imaginary audience while playing it. Return to the screen at a planned landmark, such as the next section heading or recognizable lyric phrase. Repeat with two phrases only when the first attempt feels comfortable. This is attention practice, not a memory examination. Keep an independent note of the song order and opening chords, and test your actual access and power arrangements before relying on the device. Do not assume offline availability. Finish with a complete song in the final physical setup; small problems with reach, glare, or balance often appear only after several minutes.
Check that notifications and unexpected screen dimming will not interrupt your rehearsal using the device settings you actually have. Make those adjustments before playing, then confirm the display stays usable throughout the song.
